Portfolio

For my portfolio I intend to use the first essay that we wrote for this class, which was asking us how do we feel about college here at NCC. The next essay that I am going to use is the HP Essay about their Ex-CEO Mark Hurd. Third I will use my Sicko Essay because this topic is very powerful to me, it speaks volumes about America as a whole. Fourth will be my Urban League essay speaking on my job and the things that they can improve on. And the last essay on my list is the Argumentation paper that I will add to my portfolio. To me these are the best essay's that I have written the whole entire semester. With some editing and re-writing I believe that these essay's will be great for my portfolio.

Election Day

Today's election is one of the major elections in between the presidential elections. The decisions that people make tonight could help or hurt President Obama's next two years in office. If the republicans get into office after tonight's election then President Obama will have a hard time getting anything passed through congress. As americans we should excercise our right to vote, If we want change like we say that we want then we should all get out and vote.
In tonight's election I am voting democrat, because I feel that in order to keep going full steam ahead with President Obama's plan while he is still in office we need to vote democrat. The two major canidates that I care the most about tonight are Linda McMahon and Richard Blumenthal. These two canidates are running for the U.S. Senate office. I believe that Linda McMahon feels that she can win this race because of the WWE universe. But, i've been a fan of wrestling since I was a kid but, that does not mean that I will vote for her. Because, wrestling and politics are two entirely different things.
I believe that the most important issue facing the country is getting free healthcare for everyone in the country. Getting this into full swing calls for everyone to be supportive in one way or another and it takes democrats who believe in President Obama and Senator Ted Kennedy's vision. An equal opportunity for everyone to get free care and better health.

Financial Websites

There are two company websites that I would like to talk about and they are google finance and yahoo finance. These two websites are both major search engines and both have finance websites for the public to check the stock market. But, one is more reliable than the other so this is why I believe that Yahoo Finance is a more reliable than Google Finance. I say that Yahoo Finance is the more reliable site for financial research because they seem to give more information about the stocks that you are looking up. Also yahoo has better headling stories for their financial website they seem to be more dedicated to giving you the top stories and stocks of today than google.
Google finance is still a good website but its just not as reliable or good as yahoo finance. The good thing about google finance is that it allows you to get a description of the company and allows you to know the name of its top officials. But, in the end Yahoo Finance is still the more reliable source out of the two.

Ex-French Trader Must Pay $6.7 Billion For Fraud

Jerome Kerviel on Tuesday was sent to prision for three years and was told that he was responsible for paying the bank $4.9 billion in european money ($6.7 Billion US Dollar). Kerviel worked for the bank as a trader. The bank sued Mr. Kerviel because he would make dangerous bet's that were sometimes more than the bank was worth. Both Jerome Kerviel and the Bank said that he was a major risk taker and they liked that about him as long as it made the bank money.When the verdict came out Jerome Kerviel was charged with Forgery, Breach of trust and unauthorized computer use for covering up bets worth nearly $50 Billion Euro between late 2007 and early 2008.

I feel that this article is interesting because it shows how over in France the Government is alot different than ours. I feel that Mr. Kerviel got a light sentence when it came to his prision term. I say this because if you look at the Bernie Madoff case he was also charged with fraud along with other crimes and his sentence was a 150 years in prision. And he only recieved a 5 year prision term with a 2 year suspension that is a really light sentence considering. But, one thing that he did have to do is pay back a hefty sum back to bank, which they also claim that they lost while Jerome Kerviel was employed their $4.9 Billion in Euro's. I guess thats their compensation for their first part of the sentence.

Asia's Economy To Grow 8.2% in 2010

According to the ADB China's economy will grow 8.2% in 2010 and 7.3% in 2011. "This is the fastest that the economy has grown in three years." There are 45 economies on the continent of Asia all of the economies are expected to grow a high percentage due to export and domestic demand in the next two years. In the article they almost compared and contrasted Asia's economy to everyone else's economy. But, also at the sametime they said that the continent of Asia's circumstances also weigh heavily on the continent's future.
In my opinion this article was making a major comparision of the economy of the continent of Asia as a whole to other places around the globe. The article had percentages of the amount of increase that their economy had been seeing. I think that their economy is growing so high mostly because of the major exporting that the continent is doing from all of 45 countries that it contains. I believe that if they didnt have a whole bunch of their goods going out to other countries that their continent as a whole would be in trouble.

Business, The Stock Market and The Autumnal Equinox

 The Autumnal Equinox was given this name because around the equinox the night and day are approximately equally the same amount of time. The definition of stock market is a public market a loose network of economic transactions for the trading of company stock and derivates at an agreed price. In english class we were asked to give three examples as to how the stock market and the autumnal equinox relate. And to describe why its scary for the stock market.
 The Autumnal Equinox is scary for the stock market because it is one of the longer days of the year so that would most likely cause them to work longer hours and to work harder. The second reason would be because in fall they say that the stock market falls when it comes into the Libra sign. This is because the sign of Libra means parties coming together to reach a fair exchange of value. But Last year no one could come to an agreement and the stock market numbers lowered. The third and last reason is alot of the stock traders believe in the different astrological signs and what they mean according to the stock market. Some of these signs bring wealth, some bring bankruptcy. The signs are believed  to be powerful, more powerful than there own abilities to make things happen. So who will you belive and leave your money to when it comes to the stock market the brokers or astrological signs?

The four things that you shouldn't buy at Target article

This article talks about Target in saying what you should and shouldnt buy at Target. The items that the author Elaine Pofeldt said that you should not buy at Target are Furniture because you can find a more affordable price at Ikea for a slightly better quality and cheaper price. The second is movies and music because you can find a cheaper price at Walmart or at Amazon.com. Next is Exercise Equipment the article is stating that they have no good exercise equipment and that you are better off getting high end equipment or go to the gym. And the last item is Shower curtains, some toys and other products with PVC. The reason why they say for you not to buy those products with PVC is because they contain Lead and Polyvinyl Chloride Plastic in its products and packaging.

I can agree with this article I do believe that there are certain products that you should not buy from certain retailers. Some retailers at selling a few specfic things and don't sell well on the other products around the store. But, I feel that article has informed me as a consumer on what I should and should not buy from Target. It has also taught me that I need to research the retailers and the product to see what store has the better product and the cheaper price before I purchase.
